David McCreath Performs “Royals” by Lorde
By now you’ve probably heard me talk about Tugboat and how you can support us there. Well, one of the options is that for $150, you can request a cover of any song you want. Tugboat friend Andrew Anker requested a cover of “Royals” by Lorde. I have to confess it took me a while to get my head around how to perform this song. I tried a few different ways, but in then end, a pretty straight-forward cover made the most sense. I really like the way it turned out, and I think you will, too.

For the music nerds, I programmed the drum track with DM1, using the TR-808 emulator. It’s a classic drum machine and I think it fits the sparseness of this song really well.
